Samsung has published its official recap of the #PlayGalaxy Cup World Final, which brought ten teams from nine countries to Gamescom after regional qualifiers across five regions. The August 27–28 competition was played entirely on Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphones, making the tournament as much a hardware demonstration as an esports event. Samsung says the phones' thermal management helped maintain stable performance during high-intensity matches.

The event matters because smartphone manufacturers increasingly see gaming as one of the few consumer workloads capable of clearly demonstrating faster processors, high-refresh displays and cooling systems. A messaging app or social feed rarely pushes premium silicon, while competitive games can expose throttling and frame-rate instability almost immediately. Samsung has therefore turned the Cup into a showcase for the Galaxy platform rather than simply sponsoring an unrelated tournament.

The 2026 edition also marks the first time the competition has been structured as a full season rather than a one-off event, suggesting Samsung sees mobile esports as an ongoing ecosystem investment.
