Microsoft Phone Link prepares remote PC restart and shutdown controls

Microsoft appears to be expanding Phone Link with controls that could let Android users restart, shut down and potentially update a Windows 11 PC directly from their phone. References to the functions have appeared in software resources, although the controls are not yet broadly available and should therefore be treated as forthcoming rather than released.

Phone Link has steadily developed from a basic notification bridge into a deeper connection between Android and Windows, supporting messages, calls, photos and selected applications. Remote power controls are a logical extension, particularly for desktops located elsewhere in a home or PCs connected to televisions. Security and accidental activation will need careful handling. A button capable of shutting down a work computer cannot behave like an ordinary media control.

The larger significance is Microsoft's continued effort to make Windows more comfortable for Android users despite not controlling the phone operating system itself. Apple still possesses the advantage of owning both macOS and iOS, but Phone Link increasingly reduces the practical gap for people who prefer Android hardware.
