Honor Turbo 5G pushes mainstream Android battery capacity to 8,560mAh

Honor's recently launched Turbo 5G is pushing battery capacity even further with an enormous 8,560mAh cell paired with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 and a 120Hz display. Capacities approaching 9,000mAh were historically associated with rugged phones that traded comfort for endurance. New battery technologies are allowing more conventional handsets to move into the same territory. For users who spend long periods gaming, streaming or navigating over mobile data, that can fundamentally change charging behavior.

Rather than trying to conserve power through software settings, users can simply begin the day with dramatically more stored energy. Honor is not alone: Vivo, Realme and other manufacturers are rapidly increasing battery sizes, turning endurance into one of Android's newest specification races. Bigger numbers are not automatically better, however.

Weight, charging speed and thermal performance still matter, and a phone that lasts three days but feels uncomfortable in a pocket solves one problem by creating another. The Turbo 5G shows how quickly the industry's idea of a 'large battery' is changing.
